1 person dies when 18-wheeler overturns near Nacogdoches city limit on U.S. 59

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

One lane of northbound traffic on U.S. 59 is blocked following a fatal one-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

One person was killed in the accident. Funeral home employees and a Nacogdoches County justice of the peace were at the scene of the accident.

"It was just a real bright flash," said David DeValcourt of Nacogdoches power equipment. "The truck went by really fast, went across the ditch and hit the cars next door. It sounded like a freight train."

The 18-wheeler rolled over on the east side of the highway, and the cab of the truck wound up smashed against the support column for a large billboard near Zarate's Used Cars.

The truck hit three parked cars at a nearby recycling business, and struck one of the cars on the lot and pushed it into eight other vehicles.

"We were at lunch," Chris Zarate said. "They called me and said there was an accident on my car lot and when I got here I was impressed. It was terrible."
