Being in the right place, at the right time. That's what a Lubbock woman says happened Friday, when she stumbled upon a missing woman who police had been searching for since late Thursday night.
Augustina Giraudi, 73 disappeared from the 3600 Block of 30th Street. Police immediately started combing the area looking for her and even brought in helicopters to aid them in their search.
Around 11 a.m. Friday, Kitty Petmecky was delivering for Meals on Wheels to homes near 33rd Street and Avenue W. That's when she says she got an alert on her phone about a missing person who was last seen in the exact area where she was delivering meals.
"As I was going down Avenue W, I noticed this lady kind of pacing, and as a retired nurse, I know that's what confused people do. So, I turned around and went back to her and asked her what her name was," Petmecky said.
The lady told Kitty her name was Augustina. Kitty escorted her into her car and called police.
"The likelihood of me finding somebody, was like, probably not even happening. So, when it happened, it was just like, score! This is exciting," Petmecky said.
Fortunately, Augustina was not injured, just very thirsty. Kitty gave her a bottle of water, and Augustina promised she would try not to wander off ever again.
