JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - New details are emerging almost two weeks after Porfirio Sayago Hernandez shot seven people, killing three, before turning the gun on himself.
Sgt. Doug Formon with the Jonesboro Police Department said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating how Sayago Hernandez got the gun.
"So far, ATF has let us know that the original purchase appears to be in 1989 at Walmart in West Memphis, Arkansas," Formon said. "It makes it tough because if you sell the gun from one individual to another, paperwork's not required so it could have changed hands ten, 15, 20, 50 times. It's kind of tough to track all that unless it went through some type of a licensed gun broker."
Formon said ATF is trying to determine if the gun ever went through a broker like this.
Also, two victims remain in the hospital, but Formon does not know their current condition.
The family has requested that the hospitals stop releasing information to police.
"The family has requested a privacy setting be placed on the victims' information through the hospitals in Memphis," Formon said. "So at this point, unless something drastically changes in one of their conditions, we won't be notified."
Formon said the hospitals and family will notify police if the victims were to pass away.
