Authorities release name of man killed in Sunday accident

Accident investigators have released the name of the man killed in a fatal crash on Sunday.

The crash happened on the access road in the 900 block of West Loop 289 just after 2 p.m.

The two vehicles involved, a tan Cadillac and a maroon Explorer, were traveling northbound on the access road, but how and where they collided is still being investigated.

Police said the Cadillac was in the right lane and the Explorer was behind it in the left lane. The car tried to move into the left lane when it collided with the SUV.

The impact caused the Explorer to flip and roll, ejecting the backseat passenger, 22-year-old Aaron Osborn. The car then spun into the median and the SUV landed partially on top of it.

Osborn died at the scene.

The driver, 22-year-old Scott Bednorz, and the other passenger in the SUV, 25-year-old Pecos Nolan, were taken to UMC with non-life-threatening injuries. 66-year-old Marcello Acuna Jr. and 33-year-old Carol McGinley, who were in the Cadillac, were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The Accident Investigation Unit of the Lubbock Police Department will be closing the northbound frontage road of Loop 289 on Tuesday, May 20, at 9 a.m. to continue their investigation of this wreck.

Traffic will not be permitted to travel north on the frontage road from Frankford during the investigation.

Normal travel will be permitted on Loop 289 but the exit to 4th Street with be closed to northbound traffic.

Police say they expect the roads to be open to all travel by noon.
