Texas Tech had six players named to the 2014 All-Big 12 Baseball first and second Team on Tuesday while senior designated hitter Adam Kirsch was named the league's Newcomer of the Year, the Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday morning.

Kirsch, who was also named All-Big 12 first team, is the second Red Raider in school history to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. In the first year of the league, Tech second baseman Keith Ginter received the honor in 1997.

Overall, Tech's six All-Big 12 selections (three first team, three second team) marks its most since 2001 when the Red Raiders also had three players named to both the first and second team.

Joining Kirsch as a first team selection was junior shortstop Tim Proudfoot and sophomore first baseman Eric Gutierrez. Tech's three first team selections marks its most since 2004 when three Red Raiders were honored.

Junior left-handed pitcher Chris Sadberry, junior catcher Hunter Redman and sophomore outfielder Tyler Neslony were all named All-Big 12 second team. All six Red Raiders were honored as All-Big 12 selections for the first time.

Tech had three players receive All-Big 12 honorable mention as senior left-handed pitcher Jonny Drozd, junior second baseman Bryant Burleson and junior left-handed pitcher Cameron Smith were named to the list.

The Red Raiders had one player named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team as outfielder Stephen Smith was one of the 12 freshmen in the league selected.

Kirsch (Spring, Texas) had a breakthrough campaign this spring batting .302 (58-for-192) with 36 runs, 19 doubles, nine home runs and 45 RBI. Kirsch has led the league in doubles throughout the season and was also leading the country in doubles for several weeks.

Gutierrez (Mission, Texas) leads the league in home runs (12), RBI (55), total bases (121) and slugging percentage (.585) while also posting 14 doubles, two triples, 25 walks and a .429 on-base percentage.

Twice Gutierrez has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week while leading the nation's underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores) in home runs.

Proudfoot (North Bend, Wash.) has been impressive both at the plate and in the field while batting .3010 (36-for-116) with 22 runs, four doubles and 18 RBI. He is second on the team with 125 assists and has been a part of 27 of Tech's Big 12-leading 59 double plays this season.

For the second time during his collegiate career, Proudfoot has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, a national award given annually to the country's top shortstop.

Sadberry (Holliday, Texas) has been one of the league's top pitchers this season while having made starts during each of the 13 weeks of the regular season. He is 4-2 this season with a 3.34 ERA in 67.1 innings with 41 strikeouts and 17 walks allowed.
