Lubbock City Councilman Victor Hernandez said that it's time to clean up the Omni Building.
Pieces of marble and other debris started falling off the building back in 2003. More pieces fell off in 2010 and 2012, leading to periodic closures of 14th St. and Ave. K.
In May of last year, the city blocked the area again, and it has remained closed off since.
The city filed suit against the owner back in August of 2013. The owner hired crews to remove some of the exterior, but, there are still safety concerns.
Now, Hernandez is placing an item on the June 12th Council agenda that, if approved, would allow the city manager to hire a firm to remove more of the exterior, and remove the stacked marble from the sidewalk.
The work could take months to complete, because it will take time to schedule the needed equipment.
