One man is in custody following a dramatic wreck at a Walmart gas station that injured three people, including a 6-year-old, at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say the suspect, 33-year-old Nicholas Melton, drove through the Walmart parking lot after an argument and intentionally accelerated his Dodge pickup, hitting a storm water drain at the end of the parking lot. Melton continued the acceleration, hitting three vehicles, crossing a grassy area and striking a fourth vehicle.

They say Melton then drove his vehicle into the parking lot of Betenbough Homes where he exited the truck and began to walk away from the scene until arriving officers placed him in custody.

Three of the victims, along with the 6-year-old, were transported to UMC for treatment.

The 6-year-old remains in critical condition while the three other victims have been released.

The three other victims have since been released.

Melton is being charged with five counts of aggravated assault causing injury with a deadly weapon, one charge of criminal mischief and a warrant for issuance of a bad check.
