LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Areas of South Lubbock have become impassible due to flooding Monday night. We've got reports of downed power lines near 82nd & Slide. Police are diverting traffic in that area down to 98th Street.

Lubbock police tell us two cars were trapped under the power lines. LP&L workers are using rope to pull the lines off the cars, but are concerned about a chain reaction when they lift the lines off.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

We'll continue to update this story as we learn more.

We're told that 82nd & Vicksburg is impassible and residents are advised to avoid the South Lubbock area until this weather calms down.

Other areas affected by flooding include Farm to Market roads, Ransom Canyon, Wolfforth and Woodrow.

We've also got reports of pea-sized hail in the Lubbock area.

Excessive runoff will cause flooding in major roadway intersections, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for several counties across the South Plains until 11 p.m.

Torrential downpours will likely caused localized flooding. Gusty winds may cause small objects such as trash bins to blow around. Stay away from high objects outdoors such as trees. seek shelter in a sturdy structure until this storm has passed.

In the event of a tornado:

  • Shelter underground, if possible
  • Lowest floor of sturdy building
  • If possible, abandon mobile homes
  • If outdoors, move to sturdy building
  • Avoid windows and doors
  • Strap infants in car seat/carrier
  • Cover head/wear bike helmet
