The band was playing at Coronado High School Wednesday afternoon as the Coronado Lady Mustangs received warm wishes as they boarded a bus to the State Softball Tournament in Austin.
Coronado has won 19 straight district titles and made 19 straight play-off appearances. Finally, they are heading to State and, Coach J.J. Johnson couldn't be happier.
"It's awesome to have this show of support, all these fans and stuff," Johnson said. "Hopefully, we can go to Austin and do our best. These guys have been focused all year and work hard. We've had a bunch of teams before this lay the groundwork. It's been a great year. The team chemistry has been good, things just click for us. I hope to have the approach we had the last five weeks, be determined, not backing down from anybody and go get after it."
Having already knocked off the number one team in the state in the play-offs, Coronado (39-4) plays Deer Park in the 5A State Semifinals at 3 p.m. on Friday in Austin.
KCBD NewsChannel11 Sports will have complete Extra Inning Coverage.
Coronado and Snyder are the first two UIL teams in our viewing area to ever make it to the Softball State Tournament. Snyder (36-5) plays Van at 9 a.m. on Thursday in the #A State Semifinals.
