Family, friends hold candlelight vigil for Vanessa Alcorte

Friends and family held a candle light vigil on Thursday night for 32-year-old Vanessa Alcorte.

Police discovered her body inside a car near the West Fork Mobile Home Park at North Quaker on Monday night.

Police said it appears Alcorte was shot, but the medical examiner has not released an official cause of death.

Friends of Alcorte, like Samantha Hardeman, said it is devastating to say goodbye to a loved one who was taken from them too soon.

"She was a fighter, a soldier, a mother," Hardeman said, "somebody that a lot of people could look up to - her kids as well."

Police arrested 26-year-old Matthew Torrez on Tuesday afternoon, near East 48th St. and MLK. Torrez remains behind bars as of Thursday night, charged with murder.

Police have not released any details about a possible motive.
