Idalou, Cooper baseball head to state

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The third ranked Idalou Wildcats beat number two Wall 6-4 on Saturday afternoon in Snyder to win the 2A Regional Final and advance to the state tournament.

The Wildcats had won game one Wednesday, 19-2, but Saturday let game two slip away. Wall scored six runs in the seventh to beat the Wildcats, 14-11, to force a winner take all game three.

Leading 6-4, Joey Ybarra's strikeout led to a celebratory dog pile as the Wildcats head to state with a 32-5 record.

The Cooper Pirates are also going to state next week after back to back 6-5 wins over number seven Iowa Park on Friday night to win the 3A Regional. Cooper heads back to state, despite losing 15 seniors off last season's team. The Pirates started the season 6-14, but head to state playing great baseball. Cooper is 20-18.

Congrats to Coach Terry Baxter and the Pirates, and Coach Garrett Heard and the Wildcats as they head to state for Wednesday semifinal games, and hopefully, Thursday championship games.
