The 23rd-ranked Red Raiders used a strong complete game pitching performance from Cameron Smith to knock off No. 3 Miami 4-0 to win the Coral Gables Regional on the Hurricane's home diamond.
Tech advances to the Super Regional for the first time in school history, a series they may host in Lubbock.
Tech lost an earlier opportunity in a game suspended Sunday as they led 1-0 in the 8th. Five outs from victory, the Canes scored 1 in the 8th and 1 in the 10th to win 2-1 to force a winner take all game.
Smith pitched 9 innings of 3 hit shutout ball. Tech plated 2 in the 7th to break the scoreless tie and added 2 more in the 9th.
Texas Tech opened the baseball season taking 3 of 4 from then No. 3 Indiana and they close out taking 2 of 3 from No. 3 Miami to move to the Super Regional.
2nd-seeded Tech now hosts the winner of the Florida Regional, the 4th seed from the College of Charleston at Rip Griffin Park, where Tech is 31-4 at home this season. The winner of the Super Regional heads to the College Baseball World Series.
Congrats to Tim Tadlock and the Red Raiders!
