New Mexico is betting the house on Texas gamblers. The Black Gold Casino opened in Hobbs on Monday as 600 slot machines were set spinning by eager players.
Just an hour and a half from Lubbock casino officials expect west Texans to be their jackpot. "Texas is going to be a huge part of what it is. Right now we are guessing that two thirds to 70% of our business will come out of Texas because that is where most of the population is," says Bruce Rimbo, President of the Black Gold Casino.
The casino expects to open a steak house next May followed by live horse racing in September. The total facility is valued at $45 million.
Hobbs is about 100 miles southwest of Lubbock.
