Gamecocks basketball signee arrested in Louisiana

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina basketball signee James Thompson has been arrested in Louisiana on charges of aggravated battery and domestic abuse by battery.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office website stated that the 19-year-old Thompson was booked Tuesday and released on $10,000 bail. The University of South Carolina said in a statement it was aware of the charges and gathering more information about the arrest.

Thompson has been charged in two separate incidents involving the same woman, one occurred last year and another earlier this month, according to a police report. Thompson told authorities the latest incident was only a verbal altercation and not physical.

The 6-foot-9, 215-pound forward from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, recently graduated from Parkview Baptist High and is expected on South Carolina's campus later this summer.
