UIL to move State Basketball Tournament to San Antonio

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

If the Plains Cowgirls plan to repeat as State Basketball Champs, they won't be going to Austin next year.

For the first time in 93 years, the State Basketball Championships won't be held in Austin, but instead will move to the Alamodome in San Antonio for 2015. The UIL announced the move on Wednesday, but no agreement with venue has been secured yet.

Attendance has decreased over the years, as basketball fans had trouble securing rooms with the South by Southwest Music Festival going on in Austin at the same time.

The dates for the State Tournaments in San Antonio next year are tentatively March 5th to 7th for the Girls and March 12th and 14th for the Boys.
