Your dog may be more than your best friend, he could be your ticket to weight loss.
A study at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago looked at overweight people and their overweight dogs. In the study, pet owners were given nutritional and exercise guidance that included a walking program with their dogs. By the end of the first four months of the study, people lost an average of 11 pounds and dogs lost an average of 12 pounds. Both the people and their pets were able to sustain the weight loss for one year.
Researchers say walking with your dog solves two problems because as America grows our pets are also facing a growing obesity epidemic.
