A 23-year-old widow has returned to Lubbock to bury her husband.
Nikki Belez sat down with NewsChannel 11 Tuesday afternoon and shared her favorite photos of her husband, Jose "Freddy" Velez. Velez was killed during combat in Fallujah this past Saturday.
Nikki remembers Freddy as a caring man who was always laughing and smiling. "It really hasn't hit me yet, I mean he has been gone for eight months and I just feel like he's going to call me and I can't believe it would happen to me in a million years. I didn't think it would happen to me," said Nikki Velez.
Nikki and Freddy have been living in Killeen. She'll be moving back to Lubbock. In the meantime, Resthaven is handling funeral arrangements. A date has not been set.
