50-year-old Stephanie Hopper is in the Lubbock County Detention Center charged with trespassing and evading arrest.
She was reported swimming in a playa lake Tuesday morning at Lakeridge Country Club on 8802 Vicksburg Ave.
Lubbock police arrived at the scene around 10 a.m., but she was still in the water and would not come to shore.
Officers then called the Lubbock Dive Team. Lieutenant Matt McGinnis drove their boat out to Hopper and begin talking to her.
Police say she resisted initially, but eventually swam to the boat and hung off the edge of it.
The driver eased Hopper to shore, where officers awaited her.
"We just kind of stayed with her," McGinnis said. "We were ready if she was to go under; we had our divers ready to go get her. As long as she was staying up, we were going to try and talk her in gently."
When she got out of the water, McGinnis said she tried to bolt from the officers, but they were able to arrest her.
McGinnis said she told authorities she had been working hard, and just wanted to take a swim with her dogs. They swam to shore before she did and were seized by Animal Control.
She was charged with evading arrest and trespassing.
Swimming in playa lakes is also a City of Lubbock ordinance violation.
