Tips To Help Your Kick the Smoking Habit

Thursday is the Great American Smoke-Out when folks are encouraged to give up cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco for just one day in the hopes the effort will last a lifetime.

So, if you want to join the smoke-out, here are a few "quit tips" from the American Cancer Society:

  • Chew gum
  • Exercise
  • Avoid foods high in calories.
  • When you have a craving, time yourself to wait three minutes. By that time,the craving should be gone.
  • Move lighters and matches to an inconvenient spot
  • Find a buddy who is trying to quit.
  • Go to bed early and get up early...anything to change your routine.
  • Keep your hands busy
  • Brush your teeth frequently
