(POOL/CNN) - Republicans in the House of Representatives gather Thursday to elect a new House Majority Leader.

Congressman Eric Cantor is stepping down from his number two House Republican leadership job after losing his Virginia primary race to political newcomer David Brat.

He's still expected to serve out the rest of his term as a Congressman.

California Republican Kevin McCarthy, the third-ranking House GOP leader, is expected to easily beat Congressman Raul Labrador from Idaho to ascend to Cantor's House majority leader spot.
