Standoff suspect facing kidnapping, assault charges

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock police have released the identity of the suspect involved in Thursday night's standoff and hostage situation.

22-year-old Ruben O'Neal Salazar was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. Thursday after he fired shots at officers and kicked in the door of a nearby home of in the 1500 block of 45th Street, taking the people inside hostage.

SWAT officers worked to evacuate the area while a negotiator worked to talk Salazar out of the home. He was then taken into custody without incident.

Salazar is facing multiple charges including three counts of assault of a public servant and four counts of aggravated kidnapping.
