NTSB wraps up on-site examination of fatal plane crash

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The NTSB is completing its investigation of the deadly plane crash that KCBD first told you about on Wednesday.

The plane went down around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, just south of Morton, near Highway 214 and Highway 125.

A National Transportation Safety Board investigator told KCBD on Saturday that they have finished up their on-site preliminary examination of the aircraft.

The investigator said that the wreckage will be taken to Landcaster, Texas, on Monday, where it will remain until the investigation is complete.

The investigation could take anywhere between 10 to 12 months.

The investigator said that she is working on learning more about the communication between the pilot and the Lubbock Air Traffic Controller before the plane went down.

So far, the investigators have not determined what caused the plane to crash.

Long-time Abilene businessman Thomas Joseph Taylor was reportedly piloting the plane when it crashed.

Taylor, 61, was killed in the crash, as well as his two passengers, 35-year-old Matthew Axtell and 51-year-old David Bradly, both from Colorado.

The plane was registered to Flying Lazy T Corporation out of Abilene.

KCBD will let you know as soon as the NTSB determines a cause for the crash.
