Jaws of Life needed after crash Tuesday evening

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life Tuesday afternoon to free the driver of an SUV involved in a South Lubbock crash.

The crash, involving three vehicles, happened around 5:30 p.m., at 66th Street and Avenue S, just west of Lowrey Field.

Police say that a Dodge Durango was driving westbound in the 2100 block of 66th Street when a Bluefrog plumbing van, that was traveling eastbound, crossed into oncoming traffic lanes and collided with the Durango.

The impact between the vehicles caused the van to roll onto its side and slide into a Chevy Impala that was also in the eastbound lane.

Police say the driver of the van told them that he had dozed off while driving.

One person was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
