Alex Priest has been named valedictorian for Abernathy High School class of 2014. He is the son of Kelly and Barbie Priest, and will graduate with a 5.231 grade point average. He plans to attend Texas Tech University and double major in mathematics and engineering. Alex was awarded the Presidential Merit Scholarship to Texas Tech University and was accepted into the PRISM program. While enrolled in high school, Alex was active in football, track, basketball, NHS and UIL activities. Alex participated in the State UIL Contest in Number Sense for three years. He placed 5th individually as a sophomore and was the 2A State Champion both his junior and senior years. He also participated in the State UIL Mathematics contest as a senior and placed 9th individually. Alex volunteers in his community and has participated in mission trips to help those in need throughout his high school career.
