LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Freshman guards Marina Lizarazu, Diamond Lockhart, and Jasmine Caston have been granted releases from the Lady Raider basketball team.

All three players are free to sign with any school outside of the Big 12.

Of the three players, Lizarazu saw the most playing time. The point guard from Spain started 21 of 30 games for the Lady Raiders last season, averaging five points per game.

Lockhart, also a point guard, started in 11 of 30 games last season as coach Candi Whitaker shuffled the rotation in search of offense. Lockhart showed flashes, but averaged only 4.3 points per contest and just over one assist a game.

Caston started only one game last season, averaging five points a game. She was one of the Lady Raiders better three-point shooters at 33.7 percent.

With three guards exiting the program, it actually helps sort out a logjam at the position created after Whitaker’s first recruiting class.

JUCO transfer point guard Ryann Bowser will immediately compete for playing time as the only listed point guard on the official roster. Tatiana Grant and Rayven Brooks are both JUCO transfers expected to play guard positions. Returning starters Minta Spears, Ivonne CookTaylor and leading scorer Amber Battle are also listed at guard on the official roster.

The college basketball season begins in November.
