South Plains Food Bank needs your help to harvest apples

The South Plains Food Bank is asking for your help to harvest apples.

They have a 15-acre apple orchard, and the branches are currently weighed down.

If they don't thin out the apples, the branches could break.

So if you can help, you're asked to meet at the orchard on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m.
It's located at 5606 MLK Boulevard.

Deborah Cline is the farm manager and said if a branch breaks, it could cut back apple production by three years.

She said this would affect people in need across the South Plains.

"Everything growing here goes to the food bank, and we'll ship it to other food banks in our area that need apples," she said, "and we'll give it to our clients, also."
