A teenager is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Summertown.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Buffalo Road and Commodore Circle.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report, 14-year-old John Stancile was going down a hill on Commodore Circle approaching Buffalo Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign, heading into the path of a 2008 Nissan Altima.

Both the driver and the bicyclist tried to swerve out of the way, but the two couldn't avoid colliding, according to the report.

The bike hit the right front fender area of the Nissan.

According to the THP report, the bike didn't have brakes and the teen was not wearing a helmet.

The 14-year-old was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The THP said the driver is not being charged in the case.
