The Salvation Army in Lubbock is pleased to welcome new Corps Officers (church leaders), Captains Robert & Nicole Parker and their family. The Parkers are replacing Majors Tim & Cheryl Grider who have been reassigned to the San Angelo, Texas Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every 3-4 years. The Captains are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders and come to Lubbock from The Arkansas & Oklahoma Divisional Headquarters in Oklahoma City where for the last 3 years they were responsible for all of the Army’s Youth related programs in the two state region, as well as the year round camp and conference center.
Both Captains are fifth generation Salvationists and have a rich family history in The Salvation Army. Captains Parker have served in Fort Myers Florida, Atlanta Georgia, Athens Georgia and the Arkansas & Oklahoma Divisional Headquarters in Oklahoma City.
“It has been exciting to meet the people of Lubbock and discover the opportunities for ministry in this great community,” said Captain Robert Parker. “We are excited to be here and invite everyone to come by and see what is happening at The Salvation Army. We have many year-round volunteer opportunities, not just at Christmas, and would love for you to get involved.”
The couple is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including Social Services, Men’s & Women’s Shelter, Transitional Housing Program, Disaster Services and the Corps (church.)
“Many people don’t realize that The Salvation Army is a church,” said Captain Parker in closing. “We invite everyone to join us for Worship each Sunday at 11:00 AM, at The Salvation Army, located at 1111 16th Street here in Lubbock.”
