The Pickens County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the search for an escaped inmate on Thursday night.
Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said 41-year-old James Townsend was last seen wearing a red shirt displaying the word "Inmate" on the front and back, blue jeans with a white stripe on each leg and black boots.
He is described as being approximately 5'11", 210 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes.
Townsend was last seen at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday while performing work at the Pickens County Stockade on Prison Camp Road.
He was discovered missing during a routine count conducted at 7 p.m., Hashe said.
Hashe said Townsend was eligible for release in December 2014. He was serving time for failure to pay child support.
Townsend is not believed to be dangerous at this time, but the sheriff's office advised people to not approach or detain him.
"Mr. Townsend has several ties to the community through family members and friends," Sheriff Rick Clark said in a release. "I would encourage anyone that has information concerning his disappearance to notify us immediately and to not be tempted to aid or facilitate this man's escape in any manner. I will not stand by and allow his poor judgment to place our citizens in harm's way."
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's office.
