Plainview woman killed in Hale County accident

HALE COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - 60-year-old Debra Borum Monroe of Plainview was killed in an accident on the I-27 east service road 3.5 miles north of Plainview on Thursday night.

DPS troopers say Monroe, in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, failed to yield right of way to a 2010 Toyota Sequoia and struck the Toyota head on.

Monroe was traveling with a 10-year-old female and an 11-year old female. Both suffered serious injuries and were taken to Covenant Children's Hospital by AeroCare.

One female was recently released from the hospital while the other remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers say the driver and one passenger were not wearing seatbelts.

One of the seven people in the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was taken to Covenant Hospital in Plainview. All occupants in the Toyota were wearing seatbelts and were in child restraint systems.

Monroe was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.
