Projects to resurface Lubbock roadways

LUBBOCK—The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to start work on two maintenance projects beginning Monday, July 7. The projects will resurface segments of SH 114 (19th Street), Spur 326 and FM 835 in the city of Lubbock.

Contractor Clark Construction, of San Antonio, will begin work on SH 114 and make $1 million of roadway improvements. The projects limits encompass the areas of 19th Street from Milwaukee to Iola and from Frankford to Quaker Avenue.

A $2.1 million project to resurface FM 835 (50th Street), from I-27 to Spur 331, and Spur 326, from Avenue Q to Loop 289, is also scheduled for this summer. Work on this project is anticipated to begin in late-June. Clark Construction is the project contractor.

Motorists can expect various daily lane closures on both projects, with possible traffic delays and are urged to use caution when driving through the work zone, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic and should keep the following tips in mind:

  • Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
  • Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
  • Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.

The both projects are scheduled to be completed in by mid-July. Work will take place weather permitting.
