Dad accused of child abuse in Las Cruces area

Posted: Updated:

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A man is accused of negligent child abuse after three of his children were found wandering around a Mesilla Park neighborhood unattended for several hours.

Dona Ana County Sheriff's officials say 35-year-old Angel Flores is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.

It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

A citizen called 911 about 11 a.m. Wednesday to report a 2-year-old girl wandering around wearing pink pajamas. A sheriff's deputy went to the scene and saw the girl standing in the middle of a street.

Other neighbors reported seeing twin 3-year-old boys walking in the neighborhood without adult supervision and wearing only diapers.

Authorities say none of the three children had shoes or socks on.

Sheriff's officials contacted Flores, who said he wasn't aware his children had left the house.
