Lubbock Lake Landmark hosts Archaeology in Action

Hundreds of people had a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at an active archaeological site on Saturday.

The Lubbock Lake National Historic Landmark, which is a renowned archaeological site and 335-acre natural history preserve, celebrated its annual Archaeology in Action Family Day on Saturday..

Their research lab and excavation site was open to the public during the event. They have collected thousands of artifacts from the South Plains over the years.

If you missed the fun during the afternoon, you still have time to participate in the landmark after dark night hike.

It kicks off at 8:30 p.m., near Berl Huffman Athletic Facilities in northwest Lubbock.
