Lubbock police have announced the arrest of 27-year-old Maria Isabel Martinez, the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of 38-year-old Matthew Aaron Valadez.

Police received a Crime Line tip that led them to the suspect vehicle on Thursday.

Police say Valadez was out for a run in the 2000 block of Iola Avenue Tuesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound at 5:53 a.m.

The vehicle then left the scene with no attempt to render aid. They say a passerby contacted police about 30 minutes after the accident occurred to report an unconscious subject near the roadway.
