Texas Tech junior Jakeem Grant became the latest in a long history of Red Raider wide receivers to be named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Tuesday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced.

Grant, Tech’s top returning receiver from a year ago, was named to the watch list for the first time in his career. His selection marks the seventh-straight season where a Red Raider has been a preseason nominee for the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top receiver. Tech has had a receiver on the watch list in nine of the past 10 seasons as well.

Eric Ward was previously named to the watch list the past two seasons, following the likes of fellow Red Raider nominees Alex Torres (2011), Detron Lewis (2009-10) and Michael Crabtree (2008). Crabtree garnered the prestigious award twice during his career following both the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Grant was Tech’s third-leading receiver in 2013, collecting 65 passes for 796 yards while finding the end zone seven times through the air. The speedy slot receiver was also lethal in the return game as well, averaging just over 21 yards per return on kickoffs.

The Mesquite, Texas native earned 2013 All-Big 12 honorable mention accolades after ranking among the conference leaders in receptions, receiving yards and all-purpose yards.

The 2014 Biletnikoff Award will be presented on Dec. 11 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will air live on ESPN. The winner is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee which consists of 221 prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers.

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club will announce the 10 Biletnikoff semifinals on Nov. 17 and then three finalists on Nov. 24 following another vote from the selection committee.

Grant is the fifth Red Raider to be named to a preseason watch list this summer, joining Le’Raven Clark (Lombardi Award; Outland Trophy), Ryan Bustin (Lou Groza Award), Davis Webb (Maxwell Award) and Kenny Williams (Paul Hornung Award).
