Elderly Bank Robber Dies In Prison

A Texas man who began robbing banks in his mid-80's has died.

NewsChannel 11 spoke with J.L. Hunter Rountree last February after he was sentenced to prison for robbing an Abilene Bank. The 92-year-old died last month at a prison hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

The Brownsville-area native robbed his first bank in 1998 at the age of 86. Relatives say Rountree was once a successful businessman, but ended up in bankruptcy. He apparently didn't like banks after that.
