Lubbock family welcomes their sailor home

Brittney and Clayton, finally together Brittney and Clayton, finally together
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It was like a family reunion for 20-year-old Brittney Miller at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.

The event was patriotic…and a little sneaky.

"He thinks that he's going to surprise me at the movies later," Brittney said, "but we've actually set up a surprise for him."

Brittney is talking about her boyfriend, 24-year-old Clayton Williams.

"We've talked every day," she said, "for over a year."

Clayton has been serving in the Navy for five years, in Diego Garcia for the past 18 months.

"All he talks about is a big homecoming at the airport," Brittney said. "He's been so excited."

But there was one problem with this.

"He was a little upset, because none of his family would be at the airport," she said, "so we all had a plan to come out here and surprise him this morning."

Out came the tape, streamers and flags - and then, the waiting game.

He was set to arrive at 10:11 a.m., when he and Brittney would finally be in the same time zone together.

"He was going to sleep, I was waking up, so it was pretty hard for him to contact," Brittney said. "He got really homesick toward the end and he was just trying to get through. I felt so bad for him."

The couple was reunited, and all their efforts paid off.

"I walk through the door and I was blown away," Clayton said, "because I didn't know everyone was going to be here. I thought there was only going to be my sister and grandma there."

After all the meeting and greeting was through, Clayton and Brittney could not wait to spend their day together.

"I think we'll be able to do lots of cool stuff," Brittney said. "We don't have to worry about him going back or anything. He is extremely excited to be done."

Since they began their relationship online, Wednesday will actually be their first date.

"Just ready to get the day started," Clayton said, "and go be with her, finally."
