UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Two people are dead after a tragic wreck on an East Texas highway on Thursday morning.

A Smith County justice of the peace says that Harmony High School senior Brody Stuart was driving on Highway 154 west of Gilmer when another car hydroplaned and struck his Mustang around 8:05 a.m. Stuart was taken to a Tyler hospital where he died in surgery. The driver of the other car, 30-year-old Anibal Munoz, died at the scene. Munoz was driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The passenger in the car with Stuart when the accident occurred was 16-year-old Haley Blackstone. She was released from ETMC Gilmer on Thursday with a broken arm.

The passengers in the other car, Rodolfo Macario, 29, and Francisco Munoz, 44, are both in a Longview hospital.

A Harmony Independent School District official says that both teens were cheerleaders at Harmony High School. They were preparing for cheer camp, the official said, and had left school to get something to drink on a break.

Stuart's body was taken to Crowley's Funeral Home in Gilmer. Anibal Munoz was taken to Lowe Funeral Home in Quitman.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene of the accident, which occurred near the Upshur and Wood County line. Responders came from Gilmer Fire Department, Harmony Fire Department, Holly Lake Fire Department, ETMC EMS as well as Champion EMS.
