Provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was notified of a major crash this morning at 6:47 a.m.

DPS troopers responded to the scene on US 87 just north of FM 1585.

David Shaw, 28, of College Station was driving north on US 87 in a 2013 Toyota Prius. Larry Young, 58, of Lubbock was driving north, entering onto US 87 at the on-ramp north of FM 1585 on a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle.

Young changed lanes from the right lane to the left lane, directly in the path of Shaw. The Prius struck the back of the Yamaha, ejecting Young. Young was transported by EMS to UMC hospital in Lubbock with serious injuries.

He is now in critical condition at UMC.
