DPS troopers train on high-speed obstacle race course

Ongoing training helps DPS state troopers keep us safe - so, on Friday, they brushed up on their high-speed driving skills.

Troopers set up an obstacle course at Reese Center, where they had to make tight turns and avoid hitting objects while driving.

DPS Sergeant Bryan Witt said that it's important to develop these skills, because when suspects flee, they can lead troopers on a potentially dangerous chase

“This training here is invaluable to be able to do it on a closed course,” he said, “where it's kind of controlled, but they still received some of the stress that they will see on the streets."

Witt said troopers spend a majority of their shift on the road, so continued training is needed to keep them prepared.
