Sam Gillispie is the new Shallowater Fillies Softball Coach, taking over a program that went 23-10-2 last season.
"I'm really excited about it," Gillispie said. "I've been out here about a year and a half now. Really excited about the opportunity."
Gillispie has worked at several other schools including Forney, where he coached Evan Gattis, who's currently with the Atlanta Braves. He says he‘s thrilled to be coaching at Shallowater.
"I've coached 17 years at about five different schools. This is probably one of the best I've ever been at. As far as community support, the parental involvement has been great. The administration here really supports coaches, really supports athletics. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
Fillies Softball lost to Snyder in the Area Round this past season, but Gillispie hopes to take this team even further.
"I think we've got some good young kids coming up and look forward to great things. We're gonna go out and work hard every day, outwork people. Our ultimate goal is to win a State Championship. I hope they know going in, we want to win District. We want to win playoff games, but ultimately we want to win it all."
We look forward to covering Coach Gillispie's Shallowater Softball team with our Extra innings Coverage next season.
