There is another huge project in the works for Shallowater right now, but this one isn't paid for with tax dollars.
A $500,000, privately-funded city park will soon appear on Avenue L.
It was built to honor longtime residents J.D. and Patsy Young, who fell in love with Shallowater many years ago.
J.D. spent 50 years as a firefighter, and both of them were very active in the community.
Their daughter, Kimberley Sheffield, and her husband, wanted to show their appreciation to the city, so they donated every penny that is funding the project.
The new park will include an amphitheater, pavilion, and a playground with a splash pad.
Right now, the only playground here is part of the school district.
The Youngs hope the park will be a place where families can make lifelong friendships and memories.
There is no completion date set for the project.
