American Cotton Growers lead the way in denim production
By KCBD Staff
LITTLEFIELD, TX (KCBD) -
Another notable business in Littlefield is American Cotton Growers (ACG).
The denim plant opened in 1975 and currently employs more than 600 people, making it the largest employer in the county.
ACG was recently purchased by an investment group out of New York City with plans to continue work in Littlefield.
Littlefield is nicknamed the denim capital of the West because ACG produces more than 36 million yards of denim each year, which comes out to about 24 million pairs of blue jeans.
More than 130,000 acres of cotton are produced each year in Lamb County, which equals more than $60 million for the local economy.
Cotton farming is a major industry in Littlefield and many residents who live here work as cotton farmers.
