Citizen's Advisory Committee recommends $200 million in improvements

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The 2014 Citizen’s Advisory Committee made their recommendations to City Council on Thursday, recommending millions of dollars in projects across the city.

Initially the committee asked for $687 million but proposed the city move forward with just under $200 million.

The recommendations include a $67 million police station. Mayor Glen Robertson says the current station has experienced issues like asbestos, exposed wires and flooding.

The Omni building downtown is one option for the new department location, but Robertson says the city is considering several options at this point, including building an entirely new facility.

The proposal also included a $134 million for projects including renovations to city pools, roads and a tornado siren system.
