This week’s Pay It Forward started out in the parking lot of the Rip Griffin Center on the Lubbock Christian University Campus. We set up with our Pay It Forward sign seeking this week’s playmaker.
After a few cars went by, Jerry Lawrence spotted our sign. He pulled into the parking lot after initially passing us by. Jerry wasn’t exactly sure how Pay It Forward worked, but he was intrigued by our sign and wanted to check it out.
We explained the rules to Jerry. We told him, “If you had $300 to give, who would you pick?” We told him that we have one hour to find this person and that it can’t be a family member or person in your vehicle.
Jerry knew who he wanted to assist. Jerry picked a teacher at Lubbock Christian High School. Jerry chose Joe Bullock as this week’s recipient of $300.
Jerry said, “I have a teacher who just had a double-knee replacement over at Lubbock Christian. I’m sure he could use a hand.”
Jerry added, “He teaches freshman/sophomore English and some art classes for us.”
We arranged for Joe to meet Jerry at Lubbock Christian High School. We counted out $300 to Jerry and waited for Joe to show up. Joe showed up immediately after that.
Jerry went outside and met Joe and his wife in the vehicle. Jerry counted out $300 to Joe.
Joe was speechless.
After receiving the money, Joe told us, “Everything is going real well right now. We’ve just had surgery and all that sort of stuff, so we’ve been strapped a little bit.”
Joe elaborated more on what this means to him.
“We’re a family here, so it really makes a nice deal to work here for such people. We’re very grateful to be so blessed.”
Be looking for our Pay It Forward sign soon. You may become our next playmaker.
