Officials: Discarded smoking materials likely cause of Tuesday morning fire

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office is investigating an early morning fire in west Lubbock.

Firefighters responded to a home near 31st and Belmont just after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It took crews about 20 minutes to put out the flames.

Officials say EMS transported a 47-year-old male to UMC where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

They say the fire was unintentional and that discarded smoking materials were the likely cause of ignition. The house suffered extensive damage and is unlivable.
