Charles Perry announces Senate run, will not seek reelection to House

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Charles Perry officially announced his candidacy for Texas Senate on Tuesday.

But that wasn't the only big announcement; he also told the room of supporters he won't be seeking reelection for House District 83 in order to focus on running for senate.

"There is no reason for me to have my foot on both sides of the isle," Perry said. "People need to know that on January of 2015 we have an occupied state rep and an occupied senate. This area and west of I-25 cannot go without representation that is ready, effective and on task."

Perry will face off against Greg Wortham, Jodey Arrington and Delwin Jones to fill Robert Duncan's seat, who left to become Texas Tech Chancellor.

If Perry doesn't win the seat, he will be completely out of Texas legislation but he says he feels confident that he is making the right decision.

"I would not be in this senate race if I thought I wasn't supposed to win this senate race," Perry said.
