South Carolina at No. 9, Clemson at No. 16 in preseason Coaches Poll

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Let the jawing and endless verbal volleys between the two teams begin all over again.

With less than a month to go until the college football season begins, USA Today and Amway have released the preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll and both South Carolina and Clemson crack the top 20.

Coming in at No. 9, the Gamecocks find themselves comfortably as the third SEC team in the top 10.

USA Today says South Carolina should live up to expectations as the favorites in the SEC East if they can get through a tough slate of games in the beginning of the season.

As for Clemson, they find themselves just outside the top 15 at No. 16. The newspaper says the loss of quarterback Tajh Boyd and wide receiver Sammy Watkins are of particular concern for the Tigers this season, but several back-ups and a potentially dynamite defense could be capable of filling the void.

South Carolina begins its season against No. 20 Texas A&M at Williams-Brice Stadium on Aug. 28. Clemson, meanwhile, travels to No. 12 Georgia to face the Bulldogs in Athens on Aug. 30.

A presser hasn't gone by without LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron talking up true freshman Myles Brennan. The St. Stanislaus alum is turning heads with his rocket arm, and accuracy with wide receivers. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada also is a big fan of Brennan, and thinks things will only get better for the backup as the 2017 season progresses. "Myles has gotten better every week.
