Food for Thought: 7/31

Dozens were inspected but only a few restaurants made this week's Food for Thought List.

KCBD NewsChannel 11's Christy Hartin dishes out the details.

We start with the good news.

Two repeat top performers once again serve up a perfect score:

  • Burger King at 6003 W. 19th
  • Red Lobster at 5034 50th

Now to this week's only low performer.

Manila Cafe at 4917 34th had seven critical violations.

  • Cooked rice was not cooling properly. This can cause bacteria growth.
  • There was an uncovered drink in the kitchen.
  • Raw chicken was stored above raw beef. Both of those were above cut veggies. Eggs were stored over milk and watermelon.
  • Several ready-to-eat item - including ham, noodles and chicken - did not have a proper date mark.
  • Personal medication was stored in the kitchen.
  • The microwave and kitchen shelves were dirty.

The inspector notes due to the nature and the number of the violations, management did not show proper food safety knowledge.

The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
