Pioneers picked at bottom of CSFL poll

The Wayland Baptist Pioneers were picked at the bottom of the Central States Football League preseason poll.

For the second consecutive season, Langston University was voted the No. 1 team in the CSFL. The Lions received seven first-place votes and 39 total points, putting them nine points ahead of the second-place team, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, which racked up 30 points, including one first place vote.

Bacone College and Oklahoma Baptist University were two points back of second place, tying for third place in the poll, each receiving 28 points and a first-place vote. Texas College came in fifth place with 13 points, edging out Wayland’s 12 points.

The poll was voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.

Wayland opens its season Aug. 30 in Phoenix against Arizona Christian, a first-year program and future CSFL member. The Pioneers’ home-opener is Sept. 6 against another first-time opponent, Western State College of Colorado (Gunnison).
